Our Mandate
UASU-TUM exists to represent, protect and advance the professional, economic, social and welfare interests of academic staff at the Technical University of Mombasa.
Our Commitment
The University Academic Staff Union – Technical University of Mombasa Chapter (UASU-TUM) is committed to ensuring that academic staff have a strong, united and effective voice in matters affecting their employment, professional development, welfare and working environment. We advocate for fairness, dignity, transparency, accountability and respect for the rights of every member.
Our Role
UASU-TUM serves as the collective voice of academic staff at the Technical University of Mombasa. Through representation, advocacy, negotiation and member engagement, the Union works to safeguard the interests of its members while contributing to a positive and productive university environment.
Collective Bargaining
We negotiate collectively for fair terms and conditions of service, improved remuneration, career progression, job security and a conducive working environment for academic staff.
Unifying Platform
We provide a united platform through which academic staff can participate meaningfully in matters affecting their professional and institutional interests.
Strong Voice
We advocate for the rights and interests of academic staff while engaging university management, government and other stakeholders on matters affecting higher education and the profession.
How We Achieve Our Mandate
UASU-TUM pursues its mandate through strategic representation, constructive engagement, collective action and continuous member participation. Our work is guided by the Constitution of UASU, applicable labour laws, collective bargaining agreements and the interests of our members.
- Strategic Representation: Representing academic staff in institutional, professional and employment-related matters.
- Collective Bargaining: Negotiating for improved terms and conditions of service and effective implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreements.
- Legal and Policy Advocacy: Promoting compliance with labour laws, university policies and agreements governing academic staff.
- Professional Development: Supporting opportunities for professional growth, capacity building, training, research and academic advancement.
- Member Welfare: Advocating for the social, economic and professional welfare of members.
- Union Solidarity: Building strong partnerships and solidarity among academic staff and with other labour and professional organisations.
- Transparency and Accountability: Promoting open communication, responsible leadership and accountability in the management of union affairs.
- Technology and Innovation: Using appropriate digital technologies to improve communication, member engagement, access to information and service delivery.
Our Approach
UASU-TUM believes that a strong union is built on unity, participation, integrity and responsible leadership. We therefore encourage members to actively participate in union activities, contribute ideas, raise concerns and work collectively towards a stronger academic community at the Technical University of Mombasa.
