UASU/KUSU National Officials meet SRC over stalled 2025–2029 CBA: "A Grave and Unacceptable Development"
National officials from the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) today held high-level consultations with Commissioners of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) regarding the stalled 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The urgent meeting was convened to address the Union's concerns over the continued delay in the negotiation process for the next CBA cycle.
During the consultations, the SRC informed the Union that it has not received the necessary commitment from the Ministry of Education and the National Treasury to facilitate the issuance of negotiation beacons for the 2025–2029 CBA.
UASU has described this development as "grave and unacceptable."
The Union noted that while other employees in the public sector were awarded their 2025–2029 CBAs by the Government in 2025, University Academic Staff continue to be denied their rightful entitlement to fair remuneration and improved terms of service.
In a statement to Chapter Secretaries, the Union affirmed that it "shall not watch" as the process is frustrated, signaling a potential escalation in the standoff if the relevant ministries do not act immediately.
The Union is demanding that the Ministry of Education and the National Treasury immediately issue the required commitment to allow the negotiation process to proceed without further delay.
More updates on this developing story will follow as the Union leadership deliberates on the next course of action.
