UASU Strike Enters Critical Week as Inter-Ministerial Committee Meets Monday
Nairobi, Sunday, 11th October 2026 — The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) has urged its members to remain united and steadfast ahead of a crucial government meeting scheduled for Monday, 12th October 2026, to deliberate on the ongoing lecturers' strike.
In a statement to members, the UASU National Secretary General commended university dons for their "unity and unwavering determination," despite intimidation, harassment and threats.
🎯 THE STRIKE'S THREE CORE DEMANDS:
1️⃣ Payment of Salaries of University Employees from the Exchequer
The issue concerns the funding and payment arrangements for salaries of employees in public universities.
2️⃣ Negotiate, Sign, Register and Implement the 2025–2029 NCBA
The issue concerns the negotiation, conclusion, registration and implementation of the 2025–2029 National Collective Bargaining Agreement.
3️⃣ Negotiable Items in Generic Human Resources Instruments
The strike communications identify the removal of negotiable items from Generic Human Resources Instruments as another matter of concern.
📅 TOMORROW: MONDAY, 12 OCTOBER 2026
The Inter-Ministerial Committee is expected to consider proposals tabled by the unions.
UASU has called on the Government to present a commensurate counter-offer that addresses the outstanding demands and provides a clear path to resolving the impasse.
The union maintains that the strike will only be called off once a satisfactory agreement is reached and signed.
🔥 CALL TO ACTION
As members await the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting, all dons are urged to remain united, steadfast and resolute. Let us intensify, escalate and upscale the strike across all public universities throughout the week.
NO EXCHEQUER, NO CLASS! NO CBA, NO CLASS! NO MONEY, NO CLASS!
